Obama 277, Romney 261, With An Asterisk*

You’ve seen hundreds of national and battleground state polls during this presidential campaign with a plethora of different results and projections. Even top pollsters are saying that this presidential election is unpredictable, too close to call, and possibly could result in a tie requiring the U.S. House to select the next President and the U.S. Senate, the Vice President. But, let me take a stab at it and offer my two cents, Read More »

Dissecting the Bitter Connecticut McMahon-Murphy U.S. Senate Race

The nasty TV ads and attacks have been going on since August in Connecticut’s 2012 U.S. Senate race. With 62% of respondents in the most recent Quinnipiac Poll claiming they have an unfavorable opinion of this bitter race, neither former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) executive and Republican Senate candidate Linda McMahon nor three term Connecticut Congressman and Senate Democratic candidate Chris Murphy seem overly concerned about the lack of credibility in some of their charges and the toll it is taking on Connecticut’s voters. With the current 53 to 47 Democratic margin in the U.S. Senate, and the increasing prospect of losing current Republican U.S. Senate seats in Maine and Massachusetts to the north, Republicans would like nothing better than to pick up a seat in Connecticut. Let’s take a look at the landscape in this race, the issues in the campaign, the money being spent, and the polling trends for the candidates, including the all important women’s vote. Read More »

Efforts to Muzzle Candy Crowley Make Both Obama and Romney Teams Look Scared

Word leaked out today that both President Obama’s and Mitt Romney’s campaigns have entered into a memorandum of understanding that would attempt to restrict Candy Crowley, the moderator of Tuesday’s presidential debate, from asking follow-up questions. Obama’s and Romney’s camps must be scared if they need to try to muzzle Candy Crowley by limiting her role to merely introducing the citizen questioners and keeping track of time. One could get a robot for that. Read More »

Vintage Joe Biden Hits a Home Run for the Team

Round Two of the four presidential and vice-presidential debates is over and we head into Round Three on Tuesday. This time President Obama and Mitt Romney will face off in a town hall meeting setting at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. After the first debate, media coverage was deluged with talk of style – how President Obama was passive and Mitt Romney stole the show with his aggressive and appealing style, and his “new found” moderate image. Who Won the First Presidential Debate: Romney, Obama or “Feel Good” Politics?

The prevalent view in the media today is that Romney won last night’s debate and that this might be the game changer he needs to re-invigorate his campaign and cause a bounce in his poll numbers in those all important battleground states. But is it really?? Having been involved on the inside of many campaigns, including several presidential campaigns, let me offer a few thoughts Read More »

“Gotcha” Politics for Obama and Romney in Presidential Campaign Videos

The federal government is swimming in debt, the national unemployment rate is over 8 percent, and the housing market remains anemic with only glimmers of activity. And, what is absorbing more media ink in this presidential race than a ten pound sponge? It’s the tale of the candidate videos. Read More »

Good News for Obama in the “Elite Eight” Battleground States

It may not be time yet for the NCAA college basketball tournament, but those seeking an “elite eight” this early in the pre-season should keep an eye on the race for the White House. President Obama and former MA Governor Mitt Romney have an elite eight of their own – the key battleground states where this race will be decided in November. The three big states are Florida, Ohio and Virginia with a combined 60 electoral votes. The other five toss-up states include Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, and North Carolina with a total tab of 40 electoral votes. Read More »

The Ryan Factor

In the race for the White House, Mitt Romney’s pick of Paul Ryan as his running mate is a game-changing element in the trifecta of the key factors influencing the outcome of the election – the Bill Clinton DNC Convention speech, the upcoming presidential debates, and the Ryan pick. When Romney announced his selection of Ryan back on August 11th, both conservative Republicans and liberal Democrats cheered. But, while Paul Ryan’s presence on the ticket has infused enthusiasm into Romney’s campaign and the more conservative base elements of the Republican Party, it has succeeded in rousing an otherwise lethargic Democratic base of voters growing weary of the inability of the Obama Administration to expedite an economic recovery and to fight for the expansion of some social programs. The Straight Scoop on the Post-Convention Polls

The myriad of post-RNC and DNC Convention polls can make one dizzy. The timing of the poll (a bounce right after a convention usually evens out to a more accurate level a few days later), the type of the polling sample (registered voters v. likely voters), and the wording of the questions can all skew the results. With all of those variables in mind, let’s take a look at what the numbers say and what really matters. Read More »
